Degree Programs at Cooking School in Houston, TX

The Culinary Institute ( ) in Houston, TX, has a variety of degree programs that are available for many students, no matter what their career direction.

The cooking school offers associates degrees in: culinary arts and also pastry and baking.  Plus, the school also has diploma programs with cuisine, pastry and baking and culinary arts.

The associates degree in culinary arts aims at preparing students to start their career as sous chefs, leading to a position as an executive sous chef and chef de cuisine.  Past graduates have worked with fine hotels, country clubs, restaurants and caterers.  The main goal for this program is for students to be prepared to attain higher-level skills and techniques of French cuisine and marketing the skills that are sought after by the current graduating market.

The baking and pastry associates degree is a similar program whose mission is to prepare students for the current market and in addition teach the higher-level skills needed for the techniques of creating French pastries, breads, cake, ice cream and confections.

Diploma programs consist of 20 weeks day/40 weeks evening (748 clock hours).  These programs are designed for professionals just starting out in the culinary industry.  Students are taught beginner techniques and skills, to later prepare to advance in learning higher practices and techniques.  Level I is an apprenticeship which consists of 10 weeks, level II consists of 5 weeks and level III is also 5 weeks.
